Software Engineer (Technical Implementation) - Apprentice

About the Role

The Apprentice – Technical Implementation role is designed for recent graduates and early-career professionals looking to build a career in Financial Technology (FinTech), Enterprise Software Implementation, and Investment Management Systems.

As an Apprentice, you will undergo structured training and gain hands-on experience supporting the implementation of the Charles River Investment Management Solution (CRIMS). You will work with experienced consultants and technical leads to learn software development, data management, system integration, testing, and application support concepts while contributing to real client implementation projects. This role provides an excellent foundation in software engineering practices, capital markets technology, and enterprise application development.

Key Responsibilities

As an Apprentice – Technical Implementation, you will:

• Participate in product implementation and support activities under guidance from senior team members.
• Learn and assist in configuring application components based on business requirements.
• Support data analysis, validation, and reconciliation activities.
• Write and execute SQL queries to analyze and validate application data.
• Assist in developing simple programs, utilities, and automation scripts.
• Participate in system testing activities including functional, integration, and regression testing.
• Help investigate and troubleshoot application issues.
• Learn software development lifecycle (SDLC) processes and delivery best practices.
• Support documentation activities, including technical specifications, test cases, and implementation guides.
• Collaborate with global teams across Engineering, Product, and Professional Services.
• Participate in training programs focused on product knowledge, software engineering, and capital markets concepts.
• Learn and apply secure coding, quality assurance, and support practices.

Technical Skills & Knowledge

• Programming Fundamentals: Basic understanding of Java Programming (Core Java) OR C# Programming (Classes and Objects, Inheritance and Polymorphism, Collections, Exception Handling, Basic .NET Concepts).
• Database & SQL: Basic knowledge of Relational Database concepts, SQL Queries (SELECT, INSERT, UPDATE, DELETE, Joins, Subqueries, Views), Basic Data Validation techniques, understanding of tables, keys, and relationships.
• Software Engineering Fundamentals: Exposure to Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC), Version Control concepts (Git preferred), Debugging and Troubleshooting, Unit Testing concepts, Application Deployment fundamentals, Client-Server Architecture, APIs and System Integration basics.
• Enterprise Application Concepts: Understanding of Business Applications, Data Processing and Workflows, System Configuration concepts, Batch Processing, Reporting and Analytics fundamentals, Enterprise Software Support concepts.
• Nice-to-Have Skills: Exposure to .NET Framework / .NET Core, AI and Gen AI core concepts, Azure or AWS fundamentals, REST APIs, JSON/XML, Power BI or Reporting tools, Python scripting, ETL concepts, Financial Markets awareness, Generative AI / Copilot tools.

Education & Preferred Qualifications

Required:

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Electronics & Communication, Engineering or related technical disciplines.
• Strong foundation in Programming Concepts, Data Structures & Algorithms, Object-Oriented Programming (OOP), Database Management Systems (DBMS), SQL, Computer Networks (basic understanding), Operating Systems fundamentals. Preferred:
• Internship experience in software development or IT.
• Academic projects involving Java, C#, SQL, or web technologies.
• Relevant certifications (Azure Fundamentals, AWS Cloud Practitioner, Java Foundations, etc.).
