About the Role

Emotion AI is a space most engineers never get to touch, especially at the internship stage. This is a unique opportunity to gain hands-on exposure to backend engineering and DevOps from day one, mentored by senior engineers into owning real production systems.

We are looking for a Backend Engineering Intern with excellent programming expertise in Python. You'll get to work on development, deployment, infrastructure, and keep things running in production.

This is a paid, 6-month internship based in Chennai, with a clear path to full-time conversion based on performance. We are looking for candidates who have recently graduated or are in their final semester and who can join us full-time in a Work-From-Office model immediately after the internship period.

You'll start on backend development and receive active training in DevOps as you progress.

Responsibilities

• Build backend services and APIs in Python, guided by senior engineers.
• Get hands-on with AWS – including deployments, provisioning, and basic security/cost hygiene.
• Learn and contribute to CI/CD pipelines.
• Work with Docker, with exposure to orchestration (Kubernetes/ECS).
• Help set up monitoring, logging, and alerting for backend services.
• Write unit tests and develop Test-Driven Development (TDD) instincts.
• Shadow deployments and incident response to understand how production really runs.

Requirements

• Recently completed a degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or currently pursuing the last semester in college.
• Must be available for a 6-month internship and ready to start full-time immediately after the internship period (non-negotiable).
• Strong knowledge of Python, Data Structures & Algorithms, and basic REST API understanding.
• Familiarity with SQL/relational databases (academic or project experience).
• Basic Git/version control knowledge.
• Genuine interest in both backend and DevOps – this role is built for that combination.
• Strong problem-solving instincts and eagerness to learn fast.
• Based in or willing to relocate to Chennai.

Good to Have (not required – we'll train you):

• Exposure to AWS, Docker, or any other cloud platform.
• Projects or coursework touching CI/CD, RAG & AI/ML.
