Full Stack Engineer - Higher Ed Platforms

Strata Information Group (SIG) is a trusted leader in higher-education technology consulting, supporting colleges and universities with ERP/SIS modernization, digital transformation, CRM, cybersecurity, and strategic advisory services. SIG is building its first engineering Center of Excellence in Pune. This is a founding-team role where you will help set how the team builds.

About the Role

This is primarily a software engineering role focused on writing and shipping code. You will translate functional specifications into working software across application integrations, Experience Card development (user-facing functionality), and workflow automation using Ellucian’s workflow tooling. The work heavily involves interacting with the REST APIs exposed by Ellucian’s student, HR, and finance platforms.

There is also a consulting dimension, requiring participation in client calls, demonstrations, and contributing to enablement and configuration delivery. A key aspect of this role is leveraging AI coding assistants and contributing to SIG’s internal AI tooling to compress delivery timelines.

APIs are central to this role. You will be expected to deeply understand Ellucian’s extensive API catalog, map business requirements to the correct APIs, comprehend their functionality and data returns, and develop secure integrations. This includes a strong understanding of API security, authentication, authorization flows, tokens, and scopes to prevent data exposure.

Key Responsibilities

• Map business requirements to appropriate Ellucian APIs by investigating the API catalog, determining endpoints, and validating data.
• Build and ship integrations between Ellucian platforms and third-party systems using REST APIs and JSON.
• Develop Experience Cards – React-based UI components for students, faculty, and staff.
• Design and implement automated business processes using Ellucian Workflow.
• Translate written specifications into production code independently.
• Utilize AI coding assistants (GitHub Copilot, Claude, etc.) as a standard part of your development workflow.
• Contribute to and extend SIG’s internal AI tooling.
• Configure integrations securely, scoping credentials to least privilege and handling sensitive data safely.
• Evaluate and adopt low-code/no-code tools for faster solutions.
• Participate in client-facing sessions, including requirement walkthroughs, demos, and enablement delivery.

Required Qualifications

• 3–5 years of professional software development experience.
• Deep REST API fluency, including reading documentation, consuming/designing endpoints, and handling authentication, tokens, scopes, pagination, rate limits, error handling, versioning, and webhooks.
• Strong API security knowledge: OAuth 2.0, API keys, JWT, least-privilege scope design, secrets handling, and awareness of data exposure risks.
• Proficiency in JavaScript engineering, specifically Node.js for server-side and React for user interfaces.
• Comfortable with HTML5 and CSS for building real interfaces.
• Working knowledge of common cloud and file-transfer technologies like AWS S3 (buckets, access policies, lifecycle), SFTP, and secure file exchange.
• Experience with Git-based version control and modern development workflows.
• Demonstrated ability to work from written specifications and deliver independently.
• Clear written and verbal English communication skills for interacting with US-based clients and colleagues.
• Genuine interest in AI-assisted development and practical experience using these tools.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with AI/ML tooling, LLM APIs, prompt engineering, or building internal developer tools.
• Automated testing built with AI assistance (generating test cases, unit/integration suites).
• Exposure to low-code/no-code platforms and understanding their appropriate use cases.
• Experience with API tooling and standards (Postman, OpenAPI/Swagger, GraphQL, API gateway platforms).
• Prior work in higher education technology, or with any enterprise ERP, SIS, HRMS, or finance platform.
• Experience with Ellucian products (Banner, Colleague, Ethos, Experience, Workflow).
• Knowledge of SQL and relational database fundamentals.
• Experience working with distributed teams across time zones.

Learning and Development

Ellucian platform knowledge is not a prerequisite. For candidates without a higher-education background, a structured ramp-up will be provided, including:

• Access to Ellucian training and certification.
• Direct knowledge transfer from SIG’s US delivery consultants.
• A defined, tangible deliverable to complete during onboarding.

Working Hours

• Flexible schedule with a daily overlap requirement of 3–4 hours with US Eastern morning. This typically means finishing around 9:00–10:00 PM IST, with a corresponding later start.
• Outside the overlap window, you manage your own hours.
